Ingredients
Scale
1 lb sushi-grade ahi tuna, finely diced
1/4 cup mayonnaise (Japanese style preferred)
2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to your heat preference)
1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 tablespoon scallions, thinly sliced
1 ripe avocado, mashed or sliced for serving
1 lime, juiced
Wonton chips or cucumber slices, for serving
Instructions
Place the finely diced tuna in a chilled bowl.
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sriracha, soy sauce, sesame oil, and grated ginger to create the spicy sauce.
Pour the spicy sauce over the diced tuna. Gently fold the mixture until the tuna is evenly coated. Do not overmix.
Stir in the sliced scallions.
If serving immediately, prepare the avocado by mashing it with a squeeze of lime juice, or slice it thinly.
To plate, place a layer of avocado on the serving dish. Top with a mound of the spicy tuna tartare mixture.
Serve immediately with wonton chips or cucumber slices for scooping.
Notes
You must use sushi-grade or sashimi-grade tuna for this raw preparation.
Chill all ingredients and bowls before assembly for the best texture and safety.
For a less spicy version, reduce the sriracha to one teaspoon.
If you prefer a cleaner presentation, use a ring mold to shape the tartare on the plate.
