Transform your instant ramen into a flavorful Korean feast with these simple upgrades. Add a kick of spice and savory depth to your favorite noodle bowl.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet instant ramen
  • 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 teaspoon gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, optional for extra heat)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup water or broth
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the instant ramen according to package directions, but use the specified amount of water or broth for the sauce.
  2. While the noodles cook, whisk together the gochujang, gochugaru (if using), soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a small bowl.
  3. Once the noodles are cooked, drain most of the water, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the pot.
  4. Add the sauce mixture to the pot with the noodles and reserved water.
  5. Stir well to coat the noodles evenly. Cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of gochujang and gochugaru to your preferred spice level.
  • You can add other toppings like a fried egg, leftover cooked vegetables, or a slice of cheese for extra richness.
  • For a deeper flavor, use chicken or vegetable broth instead of water.
