Make this quick, one-pan pasta dish featuring savory sausage coated in a sweet and garlicky sauce. It is perfect for easy weeknight cooking and minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces dried pasta (penne or rotini work well)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 5 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream, honey, and soy sauce. Bring the sauce back to a gentle simmer.
  5. Add the dry pasta to the skillet. Stir well to coat. Cover the skillet and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the pasta is nearly tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Once the pasta is cooked, remove the lid. Stir in the cooked sausage and Parmesan cheese. Cook uncovered for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the pasta.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, let the mixture simmer uncovered for an extra few minutes after adding the cheese.
  • If you want to prepare this ahead, cook the sausage and sauce base separately, then combine everything on the stovetop when ready to eat.
  • This recipe works well for meal prepping; store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
