Ingredients
Scale
1 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup creamy peanut butter
About 72 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Stir in the peanut butter until fully incorporated into the dough.
Roll the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat completely.
Place the sugared balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. The cookies should look slightly puffed but not fully set.
Immediately upon removing the cookies from the oven, press one unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss gently into the center of each warm cookie. The heat from the cookie will soften the chocolate slightly.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Do not chill the dough; this recipe works best with room temperature ingredients and unchilled dough.
If the Kisses break or crack when you press them in, let the cookies cool for one minute longer before adding the chocolate.
You can substitute creamy peanut butter with crunchy peanut butter if you prefer texture.
