Make a flavorful, sliceable Italian herb and cheese bread right in your bread machine. This recipe is perfect for beginners and delivers a great sandwich loaf or dinner side.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups water, warm (about 80°F)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning blend
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, packed
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, packed
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Add the warm water and softened butter to your bread machine pan in the order recommended by your manufacturer.
  2. Add the bread flour, salt, sugar, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder on top of the liquids. Create a small well in the center of the flour.
  3. Place the active dry yeast into the well you created. Do not let the yeast touch the salt or liquid yet.
  4. Select the Basic White Bread or Sandwich Loaf cycle on your machine. Choose a Medium or Dark crust setting.
  5. When the machine signals the addition of mix-ins (usually during the kneading phase), add the Parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese.
  6. Allow the cycle to complete.
  7. Once the cycle finishes, carefully remove the bread pan from the machine.
  8. Turn the bread out onto a wire rack immediately and let it cool completely before slicing, about 1 to 2 hours.
  9. Slice your cheesy dinner bread and serve warm or use it for your favorite sandwiches.

Notes

  • For the best texture for sandwiches, use the Sandwich Loaf setting if your machine has one.
  • If your machine does not have a mix-in signal, wait until the dough has finished the first kneading cycle before adding the cheeses.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
