- 4 cups water
- 4 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose leaf black tea)
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup cold water (for dilution)
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and whole strawberries for garnish
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat.
- Add the tea bags or loose leaf tea to the hot water. Steep for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags or strain leaves.
- While the tea is still warm, stir in the sugar until it completely dissolves.
- Add the sliced strawberries to the warm tea mixture. Let the strawberries infuse for 15 minutes.
- Strain the tea mixture to remove the steeped tea bags/leaves and the softened strawberries (or leave strawberries in for a more rustic look).
- Stir in the fresh lemon juice and the 1 cup of cold water.
- Chill the tea base completely in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
- To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled tea over the ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and a fresh strawberry.
Notes
- For a stronger flavor, use green tea instead of black tea.
- Adjust sugar quantity based on the sweetness of your strawberries and your preference for tartness.
- If you prefer a sweeter tea, muddle a few extra strawberries directly into the serving glass before adding ice and tea.
- You can use frozen strawberries; thaw them slightly before adding them to the warm tea for infusion.
