Cook tender ham steaks with a simple, sticky honey glaze entirely on the stovetop.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (1/2 inch thick) fully cooked ham steaks
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Pat the ham steaks dry with paper towels.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Place the ham steaks in the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until lightly browned. Remove the ham from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Reduce the heat to low. Add the honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, and black pepper to the same skillet.
  5. Stir the glaze mixture constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly, about 2 minutes. Do not let it boil rapidly.
  6. Return the ham steaks to the skillet. Spoon the glaze over the ham steaks repeatedly for about 1 minute, turning to coat both sides evenly.
  7. Remove the ham steaks from the heat and serve immediately with the remaining pan glaze spooned over top.

Notes

  • Use a heavy-bottomed skillet, like cast iron, for even heat distribution.
  • Keep the heat low when making the glaze to prevent the honey from burning.
  • If the glaze seems too thick, add 1 teaspoon of water to thin it slightly.
