Create a magical, color-changing Galaxy Lemonade that will wow your guests at your next party or impress your kids. It’s a fun and easy drink that tastes as good as it looks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon butterfly pea flower powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves to make a simple syrup. Let it cool completely.
  2. In a pitcher, mix the cooled simple syrup with lemon juice.
  3. To create the color-changing effect, divide the lemonade into individual glasses.
  4. For each glass, add about 1/8 teaspoon of butterfly pea flower powder. Stir until dissolved. The lemonade will turn blue or purple.
  5. Just before serving, add about 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda to each glass. Watch as the lemonade magically changes color to pink or magenta.
  6. Add ice cubes to each glass.
  7. Garnish with lemon slices.

Notes

  • Butterfly pea flower powder can be found in specialty food stores or online.
  • Adjust the amount of lemon juice and simple syrup to your preference for sweetness and tartness.
  • For a stronger color-changing effect, you can use a bit more butterfly pea flower powder and baking soda, but be mindful of the taste.
