Make this easy, cheesy pasta bake that combines classic pizza flavors with the simplicity of a one-pot meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound dry penne pasta
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry pasta, broth, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and pepper in a large pot or Dutch oven.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through and most of the liquid is absorbed. Stir halfway through cooking.
  4. Stir in the pepperoni, sausage, and onion. Cook uncovered for 2 minutes until heated through.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of the mozzarella cheese and all of the Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.
  6. Transfer the pasta mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
  8. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, add 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes with the seasonings.
  • You can substitute any cooked meat like ground beef or ham for the sausage and pepperoni.
  • If you do not have broth, you can use water, but the flavor will be less deep.
