Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
1 (10 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk
1 (10 ounce) bag Nacho Cheese Doritos, lightly crushed
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1/2 cup water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
In the skillet with the beef and onion, stir in the cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Heat the mixture until it is warm and well combined.
Remove the skillet from the heat. Gently fold in half of the crushed Doritos and half of the shredded cheddar cheese into the beef mixture.
Spread the beef and chip mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
In a small bowl, mix the remaining crushed Doritos with the remaining cheddar cheese and the Monterey Jack cheese. Sprinkle this cheese and chip topping evenly over the casserole mixture.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese topping is melted and lightly golden brown.
Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
For a Tex Mex Casserole flavor, substitute the cream soups with one can of drained black beans and one can of drained Ro-Tel diced tomatoes and green chilies.
You can use any flavor of Doritos you prefer, but Nacho Cheese provides the classic flavor.
If you want a richer sauce, substitute the milk with sour cream or heavy cream.
This recipe works well with ground turkey or shredded cooked chicken instead of ground beef.
