Make quick, fluffy donuts in your air fryer with a simple cinnamon sugar coating. This recipe avoids deep frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon for coating
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, 2 tablespoons melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix the dough.
  4. Lightly spray your donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Fill each donut cavity about two-thirds full with the dough.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes.
  6. Carefully place the donut pan into the air fryer basket.
  7. Air fry for 7 to 9 minutes, or until the donuts are lightly golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. While the donuts cook, prepare the coating: In a shallow dish, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon.
  9. Remove the cooked donuts from the pan and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
  10. Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter.
  11. Dip each warm donut first into the melted butter, coating both sides, then immediately dredge it thoroughly in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  12. Serve immediately for the best texture.

Notes

  • If you do not have a donut pan, you can cut the dough into donut shapes using biscuit cutters, but you must lightly spray the air fryer basket directly before placing the donuts in to prevent sticking.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute the all-purpose flour with a 1-to-1 gluten-free baking blend.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer; cook in batches if necessary to maintain proper air circulation.
