Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2-4 tablespoons water (or milk of choice), as needed for consistency
  • Optional toppings: chocolate chips, chopped nuts, shredded coconut

Instructions

  1. Combine drained and rinsed chickpeas, cocoa powder, maple syrup, almond butter, vanilla extract, and salt in a food processor.
  2. Process until the mixture is smooth. You may need to scrape down the sides of the bowl a few times.
  3. Add water or milk, one tablespoon at a time, while the food processor is running, until the dip reaches your desired consistency.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness or cocoa flavor if needed.
  5. Transfer the chocolate hummus to a serving bowl.
  6. Garnish with optional toppings if desired.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite dippers.

Notes

  • For a smoother dip, ensure your chickpeas are well-drained and rinsed.
  • Adjust the amount of maple syrup to control the sweetness.
  • If you don’t have almond butter, peanut butter or tahini can be used as substitutes.
  • Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
