Follow this simple, one-bowl recipe to bake a moist, tender loaf of banana bread loaded with gooey chocolate chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large overripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the overripe bananas until mostly smooth.
  3. Stir the melted butter and sugar into the mashed bananas. Mix well.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the banana mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips over the top.
  9. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For the moistest bread, use bananas that are heavily spotted or almost black.
  • If the top begins to brown too quickly during baking, loosely tent the pan with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes.
  • You can substitute brown sugar for granulated sugar for a deeper molasses flavor.
