Make a simple, savory cheese bread quickly using standard quick bread methods. This recipe finishes in about 30 minutes total.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour a standard 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and grated Parmesan cheese until evenly distributed.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, and egg until combined.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix only until just combined; do not overmix the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use Gruyère or Monterey Jack cheese instead of cheddar.
  • You can add 1 teaspoon of dried chives or dried onion flakes to the dry ingredients for extra flavor.
  • This bread slices best once it has cooled slightly.
