A fast recipe for pan-seared salmon topped with a sweet and savory brown sugar teriyaki glaze, ready for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound salmon fillets (about 4 servings)
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Mix the teriyaki sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil in a small bowl to create the glaze. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper if desired.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  4. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down (if applicable) in the hot skillet. Cook for 4 minutes.
  5. Flip the salmon fillets. Brush half of the prepared glaze mixture evenly over the top of the fish.
  6. Continue cooking for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  7. Brush the remaining glaze over the salmon during the last minute of cooking.
  8. Remove the salmon from the skillet and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Serve this salmon with quick-cooking sides like steamed broccoli or microwave rice to keep the meal under 15 minutes.
  • You can broil the salmon instead of pan-searing; cook for 5-7 minutes after brushing with glaze until done.
