Make this refreshing and simple smoothie featuring blueberries, lemon, and chia seeds for a quick, nutritious boost.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or water/coconut water)
  • 1/2 fresh lemon, juiced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 3-4 ice cubes (optional, for extra thickness)

Instructions

  1. Place the frozen blueberries, almond milk, lemon juice, chia seeds, vanilla extract, and sweetener (if using) into your blender.
  2. Add the ice cubes if you desire a thicker consistency.
  3. Secure the lid and blend on high speed until completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides if necessary.
  4. Taste the smoothie. If it is too tart, add a small amount more sweetener. If it is too thick, add a splash more liquid and blend briefly.
  5. Pour immediately into a glass and serve.

Notes

  • For a thicker smoothie or smoothie bowl, reduce the liquid by 1/4 cup or add 1/4 cup of frozen banana slices.
  • If you prefer a less tart flavor, use the juice of half a small lemon or substitute 1 teaspoon of lemon zest for some of the juice.
  • You can soak the chia seeds in the almond milk for 10 minutes before blending to create a gel, which results in a smoother texture.
  • For added protein, add 1 scoop of your preferred vanilla or unflavored protein powder before blending.
