Ingredients
Scale
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth.
Gradually add the powdered sugar to the butter and beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Slowly mix in the flour until just combined. Do not overmix the dough.
Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, or shape as desired. Place them on the prepared baking sheets.
Use a fork to gently press down on each cookie to create a crisscross pattern, similar to shortbread.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use high-quality butter.
If you prefer a less sweet cookie, reduce the powdered sugar to 1/3 cup.
You can dust the cooled cookies lightly with extra powdered sugar for presentation.
Chill the dough for 15 minutes before shaping if your butter is very soft.
